| I am having problems finding a job again because of a year and half employment gap where i collected unemployment for a while and was just a stay at home dad with my kids for a while. Companies are not wanting to hire me cause of this employment gap and a few incidents on my DAC report. Anyone got any suggestions on a company that might not care about the employment gap. My driving record is totally clean for the past 3 years. I recently graduated from a 170 hour truck driving training course thinking this may help me in getting a job again, but have had no luck. Now companies are telling me i need 6 months experience before they can hire me. I had worked for one company from march 2001 till june of 2005 giving me a little over 4 years of driving experience. |

A LOT of Companies have problems with Employment gaps regardless of for what they were.
Everyone that has done things FOR their Family (like time off of work, time home, traveling, etc.) where others were involved in Accidents and had recovery times, are all subjected to the same degree of ignorance by these companies as if all the People were actually doing negative things.
Even People like me with small gaps of a month or two get some heat because of some stupid crud in the companies' doctrines or merely some pointless and arcane belief that when someone has an employment gap the person or Persons are actually involved in illegal activities.
Ones Criminal Record attests to this or otherwise attests to it not.
Paranoia of the criminal element is what this appears to me.
People taking time off in their employment history and getting into trouble with Johnny Law or some such feeble minded belief(s).
Everyone is accountable for their actions (old school) yet when wanting to do GOOD for themselves and others, some of these People need to create employment as in the self-employment field OR as a Temporary worker with a variety of services whether provable or not.
I've worked for a few companies in the recent past (5 years) that are no longer in business however I do not keep IRS records (W-2) of such businesses nor did the company go out of business while I was employed there.
I say GET CREATIVE and do not just say you were a stay at home Dad.
CREATE some experience in some related field or see if there are some Friends that will attest to your "time off" as employment experience gain even on a part time basis. You were paid in Cash.
Not telling the whole Truth is not the same as direct lying as MANY corporate folk LIE everyday as do recruiters in the Trucking arena.
There ARE COMPANIES that will hire you and since your post is from January '08 without additions, I tend to believe you've already acquired employment. |
